As the year moves into its second quarter, Community Champions from Powerscreen of California, Nevada, & Hawaii in Dixon, CA found a meaningful way to recharge and relieve stress by giving back to a local University.
This April, staff took some time away from their daily responsibilities to participate in a “Weed Out Stress” volunteering event in partnership with University of California, Davis. The initiative brought together staff for a day of service at the UC Davis Arboretum & Public Garden. The volunteer effort focused on enhancing the natural beauty of the arboretum while also promoting sustainability. Employees spent the day clearing invasive weeds and planting vibrant native California Poppy, a small but impactful way to contribute to the local ecosystem and preserve California’s native landscape. Beyond the environmental impact for Earth Day, the day served as a reset for those involved.
Karla Tapia, Community Champion lead for this initiative, is also a graduate of UC Davis. Karla shared a personal connection to the experience stating, “Coming back to UC Davis in this capacity was special for me. As an alum, I’ve always appreciated what the Arboretum represents, so being able to give back to a place that gave me so much made the day even more meaningful.”
For others, the experience provided a different kind of value, an opportunity to step away from routine and support a local institute while also refreshing the natural environment. Javier Martinez, Stock Controller at Powerscreen of California, reflected on the mental health benefits of the day. “I felt the urge to give back and do something different. My role is very hands-on already, but in a completely different way. Taking that step away from my normal routine and getting hands-on in the arboretum was refreshing and helped reset my mindset.”
The “Weed Out Stress” event is just one example of how Powerscreen of California continues to invest in both its people and the communities it serves. By encouraging employees to engage in initiatives like this, the company reinforces its commitment to environmental stewardship, employee well-being, and meaningful community impact.
Through its Community Champions program, Powerscreen of California, Nevada, & Hawaii demonstrates that even a single day of service can leave a lasting impression on the environment, the community, and the individuals who take part.
